Table of Contents

Create a Table of Contents based upon the bookmarks. Click once to insert it. Click again to remove it.

Tips:

  • Italicise those bookmarks you want to exclude. Right click on the bookmark, select properties and then italics.

  • Nest your bookmarks by topic to make both the bookmarks and Table of Contents easier to read. Do this by dragging one bookmark under another.

  • If you make changes to your bookmarks, click refresh to update the Table of Contents.

Refresh

If you make changes to your bookmarks, click Refresh to update any Table of Contents, Pagination or Linking that you have.

Tips:

  • if you only want to refresh one thing - for example, your Table of Contents - just click on Table of Contents (to remove it), and then click it again to add an updated Table of Contents.

Sort bookmarks

Click to sort your bookmarks in alphabetical or date order.

Tips:

  • Dates should be entered at the end of a bookmark like this: My Bookmark, 20/3/15.

  • No fuss is relaxed about the format of the date. It could be 3 July 2015 or 3/7/15 or 3.7.15.

  • If you are using US style dates (i.e. mm/dd/yy) you will need to Click preferences and select 'US mm/dd/yy'.

  • If the year is not entered in full, No fuss assumes any year greater than or equal to 50 is 20th century and any year less than 50 is 21st century:

'20/1/17' ==> 20/1/2017

'20/1/49' ==> 20/1/1949

  • If in doubt, enter the date in full.

  • If you have dates entered in a variety of formats, click 'Make dates uniform'. No fuss will put the dates into a uniform format.

Paginate

Click to paginate your pdf. No fuss will put a red number in the bottom right corner. If you want to change the size, colour, font or location: click on preferences.

Tips:

  • If you want to alter the pagination click thumbnails, select the pages you want to alter and choose the pagination format.

  • If you want to have an unpaginated page or pages, select 'None' when altering the pagination for the selected pages.

Add page numbers to bookmarks

Click once to add the page number in square brackets to the end of a bookmark. Click again to remove.

Tips:

  • The square brackets are ignored when making a Table of Contents or Sorting bookmarks

  • Use this to help you reference a long document quickly.

Order pages in bookmark order

Click to order the pages in your pdf in the same order as your bookmarks.

Tips:

  • If you have more than one bookmark pointing to the same page, No fuss will assume the order you want is that indicated by the last bookmark. It's best to avoid duplicate bookmarks for that reason.

  • With nested bookmarks, the parent bookmark will often point to the same pages as its first child bookmark. This is fine. However, sometimes you will re-sort the child bookmarks and the parent no longer points to the same page as the first child. If you want to re-order the pages correctly you will need to change the parent bookmark to point to the same page as the first child. Do this by first clicking on the first child to bring up the page that the first child points to. Then right-click on the parent and select 'Set Destination'.

Legal numbering

Click to number your bookmarks. Nested bookmarks are indicated with '.' and numbering starts again.

Tips:

  • No fuss will remember the details you enter for this pdf, even if you remove it and add it again.

  • If you want No fuss to remember the details for any other pdf, check the check-box next to the relevant details for solicitor or barrister.

  • The bar code in the bottom left corner captures all the information on the front sheet. It is machine readable: try it with a free scanner app for your smart-phone.

Legal numbering

Click to have No fuss put all the dates in to the same format.

Tips:

  • Dates should be entered at the end of your bookmark: My Bookmark, 3/7/15.

  • No fuss will pad single digits with leading zeros and make the year a full year. For example, 3/7/15 becomes 03/07/2015.

Chronology maker

Creates a chronology from the dates in your bookmarks.

You can create the chronology at the front of your current pdf, or create a chronology in a separate pdf.

You can add further files by clicking on the "+" sign at the top left of the chronology. The files you link to are listed beneath the title. Click on the '-' to remove a file.

There are options to:

  • add the day of the week for each date

  • add the age of the claimant (indicated by a bookmark named 'd.o.b. C, xx/xx/xx')

Tips:

  • if you make changes to any of the bookmarks in the linked pdfs, click Refresh to update the chronology

  • the little dropdown box to the right of each file governs how many levels of bookmarks are included. Click Refresh to update the chronology after changing this.

  • Each entry in the chronology is hyperlinked to the relevant page in the linked pdf. Place your chronology on one side of the screen and the linked pdf on the other. That way you can work on both at the same time.

Switch the dates around

Click to have No fuss move the date from the end of a bookmark to the beginning or vice versa.

Tips:

  • For example:

-"My Bookmark, 23/7/15" becomes:

- "15-07-23 My Bookmark"

  • This is useful if:

  • you combine a lot of files that have filenames starting with dates like this: 15-07-23 My File. You can then switch the date to the end without going through each bookmark and doing it manually.

  • you want to export separate files by bookmark and you want the files to be named with the date at the start.

Extract pages

Click this button to extract pages associated with coloured bookmarks into separate files or single combined file. The files are saved to the same folder as the main document. Bookmarks are preserved in the saved files.

To colour a bookmark, right-click on the bookmark and select 'Properties'. Choose a colour that isn't black.

Insert a document for hyperlinking page references

Click 'Insert doc for linking' to choose a MS word, pdf or other document that Adobe can read to insert it at the beginning of your pdf. By clicking on ‘Hyperlink for page refs’ no fuss will search the pages of this document for page and tab references and create a hyperlink to the correct page..

Tips:

  • You can keep working on your page-referencing document and click Refresh to update the pdf with your document.

Hyperlink page references

This button searches for page references in your pdf and hyperlinks them to the correct page either in the same PDF or in a separate PDF.

A page reference will be recognised if it looks like this:

  • page 3

  • pages 3-4

A reference to a 'Tab' will also be recognised if it looks like this:

  • tab 3

  • tabs 3-4

A tab is a reference to bookmark with legal numbering. So Tab 3 will hyperlink to a bookmark named '3: Pleadings'.

Tips:

  • You can keep working on your page-referencing document and click Refresh to update the pdf with your document.

IMPORTANT: the search is limited to pages indicated by a) those pages associated with a bookmark in bold b) any document you have included using the 'insert doc for linking' button.

The reason is that, otherwise, No fuss would have to search the entire file. That would take an unnecessarily long time where only some of the pages contain page references.

Search and replace

Click to have no fuss search and replace text in your bookmarks.

Tips:

  • Use abbreviations in your bookmarks to save typing. When you are ready, search and replace the abbreviations with the full text.

  • Search and replace can perform complex pattern recognition using Regex. If you don't know Regex then you can learn about it here.

Licence

Click to see when your trial or licence expires. If you want to extend the licence, copy the Code ID and paste it box on the Buy Now button on the Download page.

Tips:

  • No fuss will add one year to whenever your trial or licence period expires. So you won't lose anything by extending before your trial or licence expires.
