FAQ

What do I need to use these tools?

You need Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional running on a PC or a Mac.

You can get Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional from here.

How do I install these tools?

See the instructions on the Download page, here.

Where do I find these tools once installed?

You will find tools under Tools/Add-ons.

If the Add-ons are not displayed, click on Tools to list all the different menus. Find Add-ons (scroll to the bottom) and toggle the display button.

How do I create a paginated and indexed bundle?

To paginate a bundle, click on 'Paginate'. This will place a page number on each page. The page number reflects the page label for that page. For more, see the video here.

To create an indexed bundle, click on "Table of Contents'. Enter the title and select the depth of the bookmark tree you want to index. Then click OK. This will place a Table of Contents at the start of your bundle. To get rid of the Table of Contents, simply click 'Table of Contents' again. To add it back, click again. For more, see the video here.

How do I change the pagination?

Sometimes pagination is not as straightforward as 1,2,3,4.

Perhaps you have inserted pages that need special treatment: e.g. 1,2,3, 3a, 3b, 3c.

Perhaps you have a section with a prefix: e.g. M1, M2, M3

Whatever the situation, Adobe and the Pagination tool can handle it.

Click on the thumbnail view of the pages. Select the pages you want to change. Right click and select 'Page labels' (or 'Number pages... in earlier versions of Adobe). Enter the type of page labels you want for the selection. Click OK.

Now click the no-fuss Pagination button. (If you already have pagination, the first click deletes the existing pagination. Click again to add the new pagination. Or simply click Refresh). See more in the video on the Pagination page, here.

How do I sort bookmarks by date or by ABC?

Every document - and therefore every bookmark - should have a date where possible. That is sensible housekeeping.

In no-fuss you should add a date to the end of the bookmark so it looks like this, for example:

My bookmark, 23/4/16

If you are using US style dates (i.e. mm/dd/yy) you will need to Click preferences and select 'US mm/dd/yy'.

No-fuss is reasonably relaxed about date formats. So you could also use:

My bookmark, Jun 2013

My bookmark Jun 13

Where you only use two digits for the year, no-fuss assumes this is for years after 2000 unless the digits are greater than 50. So '78' will be read as 1978. To avoid any confusion, enter the year in full.

To tidy your dates in to a uniform format, click 'Make dates uniform'.

To sort your bookmarks, click 'Sort bookmarks'. If you want them sorted by date, simply click 'OK'. If you want them sorted 'A-Z' change click the 'A-Z' radio button and then 'OK'. See more on the Sorting page, here.

How do I hyperlink page references to my bundle?

No-fuss can insert a separate MS Word or PDF in to the main bundle and hyperlink page references contained within it.

First, create your document. Page references can be references to page numbers or to legal numbering (tabs). Whenever you want to make a reference in your document type:

page 3, or pages 3,4 and 5.

or

tab 1, or tabs 1.2, 3.4 and 6.7.

To insert your document into main bundle, click 'Insert doc for linking'. Select the file and click 'OK'.

See more on the Hyperlinking page, here.

Problems with the new userinterface

There are lots of problems with the new version of Acrobat since 2023 (here and here). A particular annoyance is that it no longer displays the icons for the buttons.

The good news is that you can revert to the old version. To do this click on "View/Disable New Acrobat" from the menu-bar. Acrobat will re-open with the old user interface. The button icons now display.
